Valentine's Day

Make Your Family Your Valentine This Year

Valentine’s Day is a great opportunity to teach children about the meaning of love within your own family as well as how to perform acts of kindness to others. Make this Valentine’s Day a special family affair and teach children about love with some fun activities.

  1. Make a special Valentine’s Day dinner with only foods that are red in color. Some examples are tomato soup, red meat dishes, a fruit salad containing strawberries, raspberries, red grapes and apples, and red velvet cake. Have your children help with cooking and decorating the table.
  2. Have a family movie night after your Valentine’s dinner. There are many romantic movies that are appropriate for children, such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Cinderella,” and “High School Musical.”
  3. Share love on Valentine’s Day by volunteering at a local animal shelter, food bank or nursing home. Make and bring Valentines if you choose to visit a nursing home.
  4. Do a secret Valentine exchange within your family. Like a Secret Santa, each family member draws the name of another family member and is responsible for getting their Valentine’s a small handmade gift or treat. Get as crafty and creative as you can get!
